RSPO and WWF-Poland inspire to act for Certified Sustainable Palm Oil in Poland

Posted on: Febrero 18, 2019

RSPO, EPOA and WWF Poland have a shared objective: the creation of an association that will promote sustainable palm oil in Poland. Monday 11 February 2019, RSPO and WWF Poland organised a preparatory meeting of the formation of the Polish Forum on Sustainable Palm Oil in Warsaw. EPOA participated  in the meeting and some 90 people with different backgrounds (NGO’s, industry, zoos and science) attended.

The goal of the meeting was to inspire attendants to formally establish the Polish Forum on Sustainable Palm Oil and to create a road-map for a common commitment to source 100% sustainable palm oil. All agreed that sustainable palm oil is the way forward in Poland, and that substitution is not an alternative.

A report (from Frost and Sullivan) was presented on the use of palm oil in Poland. WWF-Poland launched their new report on the impact of Polish palm oil consumption on the global environment, including an in-depth analysis on the (non)possibility of replacing it with other vegetable oils. RSPO explained their endeavours to further sharpen the Principles and Criteria for sustainable palm oil.

The structure, remit, and mission of the Forum was explored in length and is due to be finalised at the next meeting in May. It is anticipated that key players will make a formal declaration of their commitment and sign an industry agreement to source more Certified Sustainable Palm Oil in Poland.
