Spanish Foundation for Sustainable Palm Oil

Posted on: June 08, 2017

In June 2017, a group of (food) companies in Spain, including Unilever, Ferrero, Lipidos Santiga and Natra, joined forces and established the ‘Fundación Española del Aceite de Palma Sostenible’. The foundation’s aim is to balance the palm oil debate in Spain on health and sustainability issues, and to promote the uptake of sustainable palm oil.

The Spanish foundation can make an important contribution to the efforts of the private sector across Europe to remove deforestation from their supply chains, and to ensure fully sustainable palm oil supply chains by 2020. A Commitment to Support is already signed and supported by various national palm oil initiatives, and umbrella EU associations across Europe.

EPOA welcomes the launch of the Spanish Foundation and is looking forward to working closely together on the task of raising awareness of the benefits and contribution of certified sustainable palm oil for the food industry.
