French Alliance for Sustainable Palm Oil at the Journées Francophones de Nutrition (JFN) Conference in Montpellier (November 30 – December 2, 2016)

On Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 the French Alliance for Sustainable Palm oil organized a satellite symposium at the JFN in Montpellier. During this afternoon session various topics were highlighted related to ‘Palm Oil on your Plate’. The keynote speakers this year were Prof. Philippe Legrand, Laboratoire de Biochimie-Nutrition Humaine, Agrocampus-INRA, Rennes and Cécile Bessou, CIRAD Montpellier.

Nutrition
Prof. Legrand presented the latest scientific insights on saturated fatty acids and palm oil. Cecile Bessou discussed the state of the art on sustainable palm oil. Around 50 health care professionals were present at the symposium, including medical scientists, nutritionists, dieticians, nurses etc.

Sustainability
The French Alliance for Sustainable Palm oil was also represented with a stand at the information market. Participants were able to ask questions about the role of palm oil in the diet and the effect on health. They also had the possibility to have a look at the informative booklets and to join the EPOA Virtual Palm oil tour to get an insider’s view on the production and harvesting of sustainable palm oil.

Participants were very enthusiast and interested to hear more about the role sustainable palm oil can play to tackle environmental and health issues and about the actions of the French Alliance to improve sustainable production and achieve 100% sustainable palm oil production in Europe.
