OBJECTIVE
The European Palm Oil Conference (EPOC) 2018 will focus on the European debate on palm oil in food and the progress towards 100% sustainable palm oil in Europe, and will increase awareness on the contribution of sustainable palm oil to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

WHERE, HOW and WHEN
EPOC 2018 will jointly be organised by the European Palm Oil Alliance (EPOA) and the Spanish Foundation on Sustainable Palm Oil and in cooperation with the key stakeholders, European Sustainable Palm Oil project, European National Initiatives on Sustainable Palm Oil, the Palm Oil Producing Countries and the Amsterdam Declaration Group.

WHAT
EPOC 2018 will create a dialogue on how sustainable palm oil can contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and show how industry joins forces with government and NGOs to reach a fully sustainable palm oil supply chain.

Update on progress on sustainable palm oil in Europe with new monitoring data and best practises on what the different actors in the supply chain have already done to achieve 100% sustainable palm oil in Europe by 2020.
Address the role that sustainable palm oil plays in relation to the SDGs:

  • decent work and economic growth (SDG 8): promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all;
  • life on land (SDG 15): protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss;
  • zero hunger (SDG 2): end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture;
  • partnerships for the goals (SDG 17): strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

Address developments at EU level, with updates on EU policies, cooperation with producing countries, commitments to sustainable palm oil, and the Amsterdam Declaration Group in support of a fully sustainable palm oil supply chain by 2020.

All stakeholders in the palm oil debate are invited to the conference, as well as representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Amsterdam Declaration Group, governments of palm oil producing countries, palm oil producing companies, palm oil refiners, fat and oil companies (EU associations), food companies (EU associations), retailers (EU associations), EU consumer organisations, members and representatives of National Initiatives on Sustainable Palm Oil, representatives of certification scheme’s, NGOs, international development programs and investment funds. Participants will be offered a networking lunch and reception.
